Arrival of the Monsoon
Mohammed Tajul Islam
Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, the rain falls down,
Streams and ponds brim, filling every town.
With lightning's spark, the thunder growls,
The drenched roof crumbles, breaking in howls.
Dark clouds gather, a shroud all around,
Evening arrives; who dares the stone-bound ground?
The black waters surge with a relentless tide,
Fields and markets now swept far and wide.
Muddy rivers rush with a gurgling cry,
Banks and piers crumble as the waters fly.
Croaking frogs, crickets sing in the dark,
Life stands still; nature leaves its mark,
Yet, smiles bloom on the lotus, green awakens anew,
Monsoon's shower heralds the season's debut.
